It's obvious why Mischa was chosen as one of Crofter's priests. He is a holy man; it's evident from how he talks, from how he acts, from the obvious power that has been granted him. He believes with a burning passion in his faith, and keeps the spirit as well as the letter of his commandments - few though they be, as he is not a man of war.
He has a sense of manifest destiny, of divine purpose. Needless are none of his deeds, for he believes he is alive only to guide others towards a better, kinder life.
In practice, this means he's a deliberately mysterious, enigmatic shit-stirrer with a saviour complex.
