PersonalityTypes

Following a discussion on #larp and some internal musing, I thought it might be interesting to compare and contrast players' MBTI personality types with those of their characters. The one I'm using is at http://similarminds.com/embj.html . While it's an indicator rather than a hard statement of fact, it can be surprisingly insightful. This place is good for discussion of the types. http://www.typelogic.com/ I'll start.

Does this page in fact indicate that people actually quite often play their exact opposite Meyer-Briggs type? More often than they play any given random type? -Zebbie

Locksmith - Solid INTP "Architect".

Heresy - ISTJ "Trustee", verging on ISTP "Mechanic", depending on how much she's doom-spiralling. Suspect an ISTP who's shoehorned herself into ISTJ roles for years.
Rosamund - INTJ "Mastermind", borderline INTP.
Nell - ISFJ "Nurturer"
Meredith - ESTJ "Administrator" (query; haven't played her long enough to be sure)
Darya - ESFP "Entertainer"
Sophia - INFJ, which explains more of her apparent contradictions than I thought it would be able to. Interesting.

So as I suspected, Darya was almost as far from my own personality as it's possible to get! No wonder she was difficult to get into playing. Miles of fun when I did though. Interesting that I seem to have a strong prevalence of Introverted types that I play, though. Possibly also why I found spending a whole event as her knackering - her extroverting at people ate into my introverted-time something rotten. :P --Locksmith

Porange - INTJ "mastermind" (I liek this title, it makes me want to cackle and stroke a white cat while telling people my evil schemes)

Molly - ESTJ "Administrator"
Greenheel - INFJ "author"
Alferwen - ENFP "journalist"
Marrick - ESFJ "seller"
Bathory - ISTJ "trustee"
So what we can take from this is that my characters tend to be somewhat more extroverted than me

Delvy - ENFP "Journalist" - also know as "Champion" if tracking to Kiersey role variants.

Edwin - ISTJ - "Trustee". Decisiveness in practical affairs. Guardian of time- honored institutions. Dependable. - also called Inspector or guardian. In both their professional and personal lives, individuals of this type are rather quiet and serious. Inspectors are extraordinarily persevering and dependable. The thought of dishonoring a contract would appall a person of this type. When they give their word, they give their honor. Inspectors can be counted on to conserve the resources of the institution they serve and bring to their work a practical point of view. They perform their duties without flourish or fanfare; therefore, the dedication they bring to their work can go unnoticed and unappreciated. While not directly seeking leadership positions, Inspectors are often placed in such roles. They build a reputation for reliable, stable, and consistent performance that inspires others to select them to lead. Inspectors use their past experience and their factual knowledge in their decision making. For Inspectors, love means commitment, steadiness, and consistency. Inspectors expect themselves and their mates to be responsible, practical, and dependable. When in a relationship, they behave appropriately for what the situation or their role demands. For example, if the relationship is in the courting stage, the Inspector will exhibit courting behaviors, such as giving boxes of candy, red roses, and presents. These are worthwhile and important traditions to uphold and observe because they give direct evidence of commitment.
Petru - ENFP - "Journalist". Uncanny sense of the motivations of others. Life is an exciting drama. But a much much more extra version. All 4 are over 65% and 2 are over 75%.

Chevron - ENTJ - "Field Marshall". The basic driving force and need is to lead. Tend to seek a position of responsibility and enjoys being an executive. 1.8% of total population. (54% E/N, 68% T/J)

Setanta - ESFP - "Entertainer". Radiates attractive warmth and optimism. Smooth, witty, charming, clever. Fun to be with. Very generous. 8.5% of the total population.
I swear I answered OC-honestly. Really! I have literally no idea how it came up with that!
It's worth noting that there's no such thing as a "good" or "bad" personality type, but most descriptors will err on the side of praise ;)
Yes, I'm pretty sure what mine is supposed to means is "MWAHAHAHAHA POWER!"
And mine is often "Chronically starts things and never finishes them, plans things and never does them, faffs and nitpicks endlessly". :P --Locksmith

Dot - [ISFJ] - "Conservator". Desires to be of service and to minister to individual needs - very loyal. 13.8% of total population - Aaaah!
Once again I am not taking the piss, but I feel this one to be actually accurate.
Same type as Nell. That seems telling in some way. Some kind of horrifying way. :D --Locksmith

Fliss - ENFP - "Journalist" (Variant Sexual, apparantly)

Hippa - ESTJ - "Administrator". Much in touch with the external environment. Very responsible. Pillar of strength. 8.7% of total population. Variant Social, and very much Type 1: One's are idealistic and strive for perfection. Morals and Ethics drive them. They live with an overbearing internal critic that never rests. Quelle surprise...

Faye - INFP - "Questor". High capacity for caring. Emotional face to the world. High sense of honor derived from internal values. 4.4% of total population. Variant self preserving. Type 4 (very entertaining): Fours are unique and create their own distinct culture. They experience the highs and lows of life intensely. They take great pleasure in the aesthetic, and have great pride in their aesthetic taste. Fours often feel like misplaced children, and long for a sense of a real family. awwww, bless

Topaz -

Tea - Something - test has a binary gender assumption. For reference, I did the test as both male and female and got identical results, so if you're happy to pick one at random for the sake of a stupid internet test... --Pufferfish

Ardan - ESFP - "Entertainer", subvariant 'sexual' - no particular surprises there.

Zebbie - INTJ - "Mastermind". Introverted intellectual with a preference for finding certainty. A builder of systems and the applier of theoretical models. 2.1% of total population (But a huge amount of the people who enjoy M-B tests, I hear ;D). All letter pairs within a few percent, widest variation 60/40 bias towards Introversion. Sexual varient. Type 8 (eg: Lisalotte/Elizabeth?) followed by type 3 (eg: Darcy), followed by 5, 1 and 9 (2 of Argus', 1 shared by the others). Fairly balanced types with a spike towards Aggressiveness. Pretty low Type 4 (Sensitivity) - this is also the lowest or second lowest in Lisalotte/Argus?/Darcy? - though one of the highest in Elizabeth.

Lisalotte - ISFJ - "Conservator". Desires to be of service and to minister to individual needs - very loyal. Particularly high scores on the Sensing and Judging parts. Type 8 "I must be strong and in control to be happy" Eights are natural leaders. Frank and direct with large personalities, they are unlikely to back down to adversity. They motivate others. They have a strong sense of justice and are often protectors of the weak. Eights can be domineering tyrants. Highest trait scores for Aggressiveness and Perfectionism, well above the others.

Argus - ESFP - "Entertainer". Radiates attractive warmth and optimism. Smooth, witty, charming, clever. Fun to be with. Very generous. 8.5% of the total population. (I think this might be overselling him somewhat...) Social varient (Mostly compliant, then withdrawn, then assertive). Type 9: "I must maintain a peaceful and easygoing environment to be happy." Nines are calm, laid-back, and optimistic. They are able to see everyone's point of view and have a natural desire for peace. Nines are effective mediators. Fearful of conflict and separation from others, they can be too accommodating.

Lady Darcy - ESFJ - "Seller". Most sociable of all types. Nurturer of harmony. Outstanding host or hostesses. 90% score for the trait of Image Awareness, followed at a distance by Aggressiveness and Perfectionism. Type 3: "I must be impressive and attractive to be happy." followed by Type 8 "I must be strong and in control to be happy.". Threes derive self worth from external success. They are highly skilled in adapting in order to gain accolades. This comes at the price of having a personal identity. Threes often lose sight of (or deprioritise) their own feelings in order to achieve goals. Sexual varient (assertive, compliant, withdrawn).

Elizabeth of Gedhrent - ESFP - "Entertainer". Scored quite highly on all traits! Especially Type 8: "I must be strong and in control to be happy." Type 7 "I must be high and entertained to be happy.", Type 4 "I must be true to my emotions to be happy." and Type 2 "I must be helpful and caring to be happy."

In conclusion I appear to prefer larp 'xSFx' characters despite that not being my natural state. And am happy with them being very different on Meyer-Briggs but tend not to vary too far in Enneagram type. Interestingly, in my head Elizabeth is effectively Lisalotte without the limits imposed by order and a God, and very far from Argus, which is not what the M-B suggests but goes well with the Enn result.

Pip - ENFP - "Journalist". Uncanny sense of the motivations of others. Life is an exciting drama. 8.1% of total population. 75:25 split on each letter except N, which was nearly 50:50 with S (Sensing). All traits between 43-63% except Adventurousness (66%) and low Detachment (13%) and Anxiety (26%) - which seems appropriate, Pip feels everything but doesn't angst about it. Sexual Varient (a/c/w). Type 7 "I must be high and entertained to be happy." but very closely followed by Type 2 "I must be helpful and caring to be happy." and Type 3 "I must be impressive and attractive to be happy." - which I wouldn't have necessarily expected. Type 8 also featured. "Sevens are optimistic thrill seekers who see life as an adventure. Their constant zest for life can be inspiring, but once things lose their fun, 7s are no longer interested, many projects go unfinished. 7s fear being overwhelmed by lifes struggles".

Malselene - INTJ - "Mastermind". Introverted intellectual with a preference for finding certainty. A builder of systems and the applier of theoretical models. 2.1% of total population. (Type 5 (25) followed by type 7 (24), variant: self preserving)

Ysmay - ISTJ - "Trustee". Decisiveness in practical affairs. Guardian of time- honored institutions. Dependable. 11.6% of total population. (Type 1 (27), Variant: omni (all about equal))
Imayn - INTJ - "Mastermind". Introverted intellectual with a preference for finding certainty. A builder of systems and the applier of theoretical models. 2.1% of total population. (Type 1 (26), Variant: sexual)
Hessonite - ENTJ - "Field Marshall". The basic driving force and need is to lead. Tend to seek a position of responsibility and enjoys being an executive. 1.8% of total population. (Type 1/7 (both on 24) and highly amusingly variant: sexual)
Fern - ENFP - "Journalist". Uncanny sense of the motivations of others. Life is an exciting drama. 8.1% of total population. (Type 4 ( 27) followed by type 7(25), Variant: Social)

Pufferfish - ISTJ - "Trustee"- "Decisiveness in practical affairs. Guardian of time- honored institutions. Dependable."

Fiona gets a tie between ESTJ ("Administrator". Much in touch with the external environment. Very responsible. Pillar of strength.) and ESFJ ("Seller". Most sociable of all types. Nurturer of harmony. Outstanding host or hostesses.), which sounds entirely believable. There doesn't appear to be a "control freak" personality type, though her enneagram test comes out with "I must be strong and in control to be happy" on top...

Lucie is a very definite ESTJ ("Administrator". Much in touch with the external environment. Very responsible. Pillar of strength). Hurhur, pillar of strength. Mmm, touching the external environment.

Ariane gets ISTJ, though rather more emphatically than I did.

Astrid is ESTJ, enneagram type 7 "optimistic, adventurous, thrill seeker"... which actually explains quite a lot about her being a voice of sanity and then shooting Puzzles with crackbeast-juice...

Gwyntanwen ties ENFP (Journalist) and ENTP (Inventor), which presumably means she's a slighty scatty academic who likes life to be an adventure. Also far more different from me than any other character I've played.

Chessypig - tied INTJ/P Mastermind / Architect, which is an excellent explanation of me really. Also I apparently value being impressive and attractive in an assertive and noncompliant fashion... I am going to do Maelstrom characters as my CUTT characters are all long gone or not very amenable to poking at the moment.

Amaranth (Apharanta) is ENFP, which is pretty accurate - 'Uncanny sense of the motivations of others. Life is an exciting drama.'. She ties on type 7 and 3 (desire to be high and entertained / desire to be impressive and attractive) and is also assertive and noncompliant. Amaranth (Numenon), however, is a straight-down-the-line ISTJ Trustee, tying on 1 and 8 (I must be perfect and good / I must be strong and in control) and is compliant and withdrawn.

Jessily is ESFP, i.e. pretty much exactly my opposite. Actually has a dominant ennagram type, 2 ('I must be helpful and caring to be happy') variant Social (compliant and assertive). Interestingly she was always quite straightforwards to drop into playing as basically I just had to pay intense attention to being in the moment and reacting to emotional responses...

Drac - ISTJ "Trustee". Faily solid in all camps, lowest being S at 63%, Decisiveness in practical affairs. Guardian of time- honored institutions. Dependable. 11.6% of total population. Type 2(help fullness) managed a whooping 10%. Tied for dominant traits: aggressiveness and detachment followed by perfectionism (Protector of the weak or tyrant). Trait: Sexual: assertive, withdrawn and lowest on compliant.

Requiem - [ENTP Inventor] (the first page of that is pretty much *exactly* how I see myself if I'm being unreservedly positive and optimistic), strongly ENxP?, tied T and F, but I suspect that a bunch of the F answers I gave were just wrong. This is pretty much what I have always got at these tests. Then getting a 9 enneagram ('I must be calm and relaxed') with a much stronger score than any of the others, sexual variant (physician, heal thyself: loud personalities can be loud for other reasons...) Doing my Maelstrom character because the TT ones are dead.

Auriel, answering as male because 'asexual' isn't on the list. ENTJ, Field Marshall, 'the basic driving force is to lead', which is pretty accurate; I guess that 'self-centred goit' isn't on the list either. Very strong scores on all counts, but this is because it is a creature of extremes. Enneagram of 4 ('I must be true to my emotions') almost tied with 3 ('I must be impressive and attractive') and 6 ('I must be secure and safe') and 5 ('I must be knowledgeable and independent'). Strong reaction to the phrase 'Fours often feel like misplaced children'. Self-preservation variant (withdrawn and compliant), which is absolutely correct - the questions that it answered very differently from me were mostly the assertiveness ones. I'm quite surprised that the test correctly identified Auriel as an extravert who likes hiding itself away, rather than an introvert.

Shyndree - INFJ "Author" Strong drive and enjoyment to help others. Complex personality. 1.5% of total population. I must say this is interesting... Last time I took the test I definitely remember being an extrovert. However reading this type up, I must say it fits perfectly... also explains an awful lot of things... But tbh I got nothing over 58% and my introvertness is 52% so meh. But then INFJs are said to be often mistaken as extroverts. (Also, funny, but I turned out to be self preservation variant, I feel so cowardly!)

*Shyn - ESFP "Entertainer". Radiates attractive warmth and optimism. Smooth, witty, charming, clever. Fun to be with. Very generous. 8.5% of the total population. Okay, I think this is just the standard Mercenary character! XD Haha (Probably because of the adventurous nature, and fearlessness and stuff.) Sexual variant (Erm, I don't really see her sexuality at all... I mean... She is just really not interested!)

*Cecilé - ISTJ "Trustee". Decisiveness in practical affairs. Guardian of time- honored institutions. Dependable. 11.6% of total population. I've taken this with her REAL personality. If I tried to take one for all of her fake ones, it would take forever, or just break my brain. Social variant (more like sociopath variant!)

Ailooholt - ENFP "Journalist". Uncanny sense of the motivations of others. Life is an exciting drama. 8.1% of total population. At first it doesn't seem very fitting, but reading into it, it does fit her. Sexual variant (Seriously?! Her?! Where is the world going?! It must be Jasper corrupting her ;))

MorkaisChosen - ENFP - "Journalist". Uncanny sense of the motivations of others. Life is an exciting drama. 8.1% of total population. Social variation. Seems reasonable...

John - ESFJ - "Seller". Most sociable of all types. Nurturer of harmony. Outstanding host or hostesses. 12.3% of total population. Social variation again. Not all that surprised that he judges more than me- he's a lot like me, but more likely to actually do things...
Justin - ISTJ - "Trustee". Decisiveness in practical affairs. Guardian of time- honored institutions. Dependable. 11.6% of total population. Sexual variant. Looking at the variants bit, that's assertive-withdrawn-notcompliant, which does fit. The word sexual doesn't. And Trustee? I suppose they don't want to call people Complete Gits.
Tenuchli - ESFP - "Entertainer". Radiates attractive warmth and optimism. Smooth, witty, charming, clever. Fun to be with. Very generous. 8.5% of the total population. ... It appears that murderous murderbugs break the test.
