Leith Dabeney Esq. is a distiller and importer, one half of the business Dabeney & Son (he's the son). He is currently travelling off to the Seven Shires with Maia Clearwater, having a good time and investing in new markets for strong drinks, sauces, and jellies.

“We were talking – not to put too fine a point on it – about fucking.”

About Leith

Leith can be recognised by his black cloak, leather waistcoat, and hook-shaped scar on his right cheek. Those who see him shirtless will also note a devotional scar on each arm and another hook tattooed on his left biceps; the ability to call on miracles while naked has come in handy more than once.

Close inspection reveals that while he usually carries at least two weapons, he uses them very little and tends to be at the back of most fights. He prefers to experience “suffering” when he's not at risk of death - in bed with a box of toys and a partner or two is generally much more his thing. He also appreciates a good stiff drink, and has been known to branch out into confectionery and other foods.

Leith was born to Hannah Dabeney and Sir Hector Murrell, Baronet of Solderidge, not long after the unexplained death of the former's husband. Accordingly he freely admits that he is a bastard and will cheerfully bat for both teams in any debate between nobles and commoners. Although he and his stepmother Lady Murrell (née Murrell) are bitter enemies, he gets on well with both his natural parents, and they seem to support his dissolute lifestyle; for his part he does his best to be a “good influence” on his half-brothers, and relentlessly mocks his cousin Etheldreda for not having had an expensive governess (in any sense).

He also has a memes page.

History

Leith first showed up in the Wessex Arms in the autumn of 1295 and seemed to fit in pretty well. A few minor scrapes occurred - including a case of false advertising resulting in him poisoning the then Sheriff Geroff - but for the most part he stayed out of trouble until he was recruited on an adventure into the Dream.

The other adventurers got their first serious inkling of Leith's real motivation when some passing Nightmares challenged him to a game of Truth Or Dare... and Leith played to win. His discourse on the subject of wax play managed to scare off two of the Nightmares, and attracted Maia's attention; when she was later made to feel “really good” by a dose of mind-altering venom, and Leith offered to “do that to you for free”, she took him up on it. It was only to get worse from there.

The Dream adventure also led to Leith's nature as an awakened Sordanite becoming more clear. A personal nightmare reaffirmed his faith and led him to call upon Sordan openly for the first time. It still took a couple of months for several people - including the Mayor, Lord Keric - to realise this. And when Leith contracted a soul-mark from a liaison with a fae, he made the mistake of saying “Balance is the best god!” as a condition of having the mark removed (the after-effects of three Lucanite miracles might have been affecting his judgement at the time). The resulting spirit wracking came with a long list of effects and took a week of severe penance to remove, leaving him with three additional scars including a hook on his right cheek.

Leith was also busy in secular affairs. He took some pleasure in helping organise the marriage of Althea and Bathory (they really needed to get laid) and although he was unable to attend the ceremony he did send them his blessing and a bottle of champagne. He participated in infiltrating the Seascale monastery alongside his cousin, and narrowly escaped with his life. He also managed to bless Keric and Larch (in the form of matching Induce Lust miracles) before they eloped, and joined in the riots and ballot-spoiling in the ensuing election. Dealing with the crew of the Phoenix caused further amusement; most memorably, the building containing Leith's apartment was burned to the ground by Vala and took a large part of the Docks with it.

Ultimately the escalation of his and Maia's activities forced them to admit that there was a “thing” going on, and the end of spring 1296 saw them planning to leave the city for further adventures together. The nature of these adventures can only be speculated on...
