The only person in the family to have no magical talent whatsoever, Young Alan ended up in the clergy - and soon became the senior priest in King's Stoke, as well as having been the senior priest in the entire Loyalty Assembly in the brief period before Cardinal Jared's appointment. His blunt manner and firmly held views made his career a little more tricky than he might have liked, but after a year of summits at Anvil he was making his way as a promising member of the Synod, and had formed a deep bond with Cora Holdfast of the Navarr.
At the first battle of the Winter Solstice, 377 YE, Alan was cut down by the barbarian advance, and was found mortally wounded by his cousin Ed Watcher. With his last words he asked Ed to take care of Ros, and to tell Cora Holdfast of his love for her – too late.
Ed brought Alan's body back from the battlefield and he was given a proper Marcher funeral along with John Marsh, Bram Miller, and Goody Mary. May they find swift passage through the Labyrinth.
