Order arrived
Order has now arrived. I've not yet opened the boxes to confirm, but the documents list everything that was ordered as having been dispatched.
Shipping wound up being 50 quid, pre-VAT.
Everything listed below is now on a spreadsheet at the following location:
http://illythia.ath.cx/~tmg27/GISurplus.xlsx
(This is a copy. I don't promise it'll be kept precisely up to date.)
That link is to an Excel 2010 .xlsx file. An Excel 97-2003 compatible .xls file is available at:
http://illythia.ath.cx/~tmg27/GISurplus_retro.xls
Note that this file will not be kept anything like as up to date as the other version.
If you can't read either, ask me here or by email to 'garnett AT cantab DOT net'.
Payment:
- I will take cash - change is likely to be your problem.
- I will take cheques - my name is "Mr Thomas M Garnett" for those purposes.
- I will take bank transfers. ac: 10106633 sort: 16-15-19 - please email me on 'garnett AT cantab DOT net' with "GISurplus" and your name in the subject if you do this.
I will be requiring payment (or an assertion that a bank transfer has already been set up) before I give people stuff.
Okay, looks like the following items are missing: 8 french leather pouches, and all the german signalling torches. I am expecting credit for them to be refunded to me. I plan to deal with the former by knocking 1 pouch each off everyone who got 5 or more, and 2 off my order. The latter affects only Richard. The former means new prices for a few people, of whom androidkiller, andy and Pufferfish have paid me. Everything will also cost fractionally more because the postage is split fewer ways, but I'll just absorb that for anyone who has paid already. (This applies to anyone else who has the old number for whatever reason).
I'll bring everything Cambridge-based to Friday's interactive. Collection from my house (CB4 2QR) can instead be arranged whenever I happen to be in.
Changes is distribution and/or corrections to the spreadsheet notified here. Please do NOT change the stuff in the original order and expect me to spot it:
(Richard, I've got the one with the water bottle)
You have me and Pufferfish intertwingled - she ordered the russian roll-up mattress and ammo pouches, I ordered a greatcoat and two field telephones. --Pewterfish
- Fixed.
Steph, blanket is yours.
Cautionary note about the coats
As it is, they smell of the anti-moth agent.
If you get the coat wet, it will *REEK* - to the point that being nearby will likely irritate your insides and make you cough.
Suggested action: Make friends with someone who owns a shed / garage that isn't used often. Give your coat a bath (just soak it thoroughly). Put it in the said shed to dry (keep the shed well ventilated).
Rainbowkitten whose coat was put out to air and got forgotten until after the downpour
(I found it was fine after washing it four times - it now smells of fabric conditioner instead, which I think is better -- Philip)
- I also recommend against feeding them after midnight. --Chevron
Inquisitor is coordinating a bulk order from GI Surplus, who are a military surplus wholesaler.
This means that their prices are awesome, but most things come in packs of 5. A lot of their stuff has larp applications, albeit more sci-fi than fantasy in many cases.
Some DUD people did this successfully earlier in the year, and I plan to see if any of them are up for joining in as well (currently, there's not much interest - but if you see a few names you don't recognise, it's them getting odds and ends).

Anyone interested? Timescale: Ordering Monday 21st. Order deadline is 1am on Monday 21st (why yes, this *is* the same as the downtime deadline). Items will be delivered to my house in north Cambridge, and I'll expect to be in for collections for most of the next few evenings, and to bring a car-full of stuff to the following interactive.
NB: Prices don't include VAT or delivery. Expect those to add 25% or so to the listed numbers. (I'd be splitting delivery proportionally across everything owing).
Complete batches
This is the shopping list, and should indicate to whom things are going. Don't add anything to this section if you aren't sure where it's (almost) all going.
- Cheap grey greatcoats http://www.gisurplus.co.uk/shop/product.php/1035/warsaw-pact-other-ranks-grey-greatcoats - roughly 13 quid a pop. I'll be rounding up and ordering as many as it takes to cover number ordered. Given the nature of sizing, I can't make any absolute promises - but if people indicate preferences, I'll do what I can to match them.

Discussion / Partial batches
Things in this section won't be ordered - but they will be moved up if they fill.
Tents and beds
- I want some sort of tent suitable for IC tenting in various settings: something like this http://www.gisurplus.co.uk/shop/product.php/267/wholesale-bulk-french-army-olive-2-man-tents -- Salavant
- Do you consider the teepee tent listed above to count for this?
- I'd probably prefer a tent with a groundsheet but if we needed to get more teepee tents to make the order happen, sure I'd do that.
- The ground sheet issue is probably solvable with (http://www.gisurplus.co.uk/shop/product.php/247/ground-sheets-2-x-3-meters) okay they're square but manipulations via folding corners are possible. If I was going to get teepee tent I'd also want one of these although I'm still not sure I want one. --Malselene
- On the other hand, the 2-man tent is cheaper then teepee-plus-groundsheet, is bigger, has a flysheet, has the groundsheet sewn in (so less drafty), and vertical rain won't come in the entrance. It has a zip though, so not quite so IC-style (minor issue). --Canashir
- Well yes, this is the thing. Zips can be covered, though, surely: I don't think it would take that much IC decoration to cover. But I have no experience with camping & LARPing, so... -- Salavant
- People are generally prepared to fudge or ignore that sort of thing, and I cheerfully admit it's better as a tent for sleeping purposes. Ponchotents wanted for IC-ness. We'll see how numbers work out. --I
- If you can't find 4 more people who also want them, somewhere near me sells tents very similar to this http://www.gisurplus.co.uk/shop/product.php/267/wholesale-bulk-french-army-olive-2-man-tents in batches of 1 and slightly cheaper after student discount. I use it in the IC area at Maelstrom. --Penny
- Phoned up the place I got mine and it turns out they don't have them any more :( Aardvark also expressed an interest if anyone is considering doing another order to get a batch of 5 of them. -- Penny
- I'd quite like one of these, would prefer this to the teepee one, but not too fussed.
- Who's that?-- Salavant
- Steph, IIRC --I
- Put me down as interested for one --Andy
- I'm seeing Salavant, Steph, Andy as interested in the 'real' tent, and Inquisitor, Chevron, maybe-tea, maybe-salavant, maybe-Malselene, maybe-Steph as interested in the ponchotent. Think I'll leave those open for now, in hopes of attracting more interest.
- I'll only have the ponchotent if we can't get a 'real' tent order together. -- Salavant
Clothes
Other gear
- This double petrol burner looks a nice thing, but I'm not sure what else I'd need to make up a workable stove/cooker. http://www.gisurplus.co.uk/shop/product.php/1084/swiss-field-kitchen-burner Thoughts, anyone? Canashir
- I was also intrigued by that, but can't work out how big it is; suspect it's rather big. Personally, I'd be wanting either a tripod or a trivet to hold my cooking surface over it properly. Can't honestly see a use unless you're wanting to run a largeish scale camp kitchen. Also, petrol... it's dangerous and smelly as fuels go. --I
- Presumably the burners are far enough apart that a pair of big pans can go on them. Petrol is fine if you use it right: I've had no trouble with it in my MSR stove. But yes, it does look as if it's a spare part for a hob: it needs something to hold the pans, and maybe something to sit on. -- Canashir
- Lots of people have gone 'ooh, glass bottles'. Anyone actually want any?
- It's worth remembering that I have glass bottles with proper corks at 60p each. I have an infinite supply of these. Just ask at an interactive. --Ahdok
