Badru was a hekau in Egypt before the arrival of Alexander and Ptolomy Sotor. When Ptolomy became Horus, Badru and the other astrologers, temple guards and hekau within the Nome of Am-Khent moved to Alexandria, where they quickly found favour with the new Pharaoh. Among the priests of Bastet was Badru's young wife, Ra-mut. Tragically, shortly after they were wed Ra-mut contracted a rare and wasting blood disease. Her strength and lucidity falling away by the day, she was increasingly unable to spend time outside her quarters in the temple and without the constant attention of her personal physicians.

Pained by separation from his wife while she was so afflicted, Badru respectfully resigned his office as hekau and took up a post with the temple guard in order to be closer to Ra-mut. Her condition continued to worsen, and despite the occasional new wonder medicine and whispers of miraculous healing occuring within the court of pharoah, no cure could be found.

Ra-mut died on the morning of the first ever Annual. Badru had not initially intended to attend, desiring rather to be with his wife in her final hours. However, she died early in the morning, and as her funeral preparations had been carefully laid out in the preceding weeks and months, there was little Badru could do after than that which would not involve him being in the way. He attended the annual in his mouring robes to leave room for the ceremonies to be performed, and to distract himself with sense of duty and whatever strange things would be seen on Atlantis.

He returned to Egypt several times throughout the festival in order to check on Ra-mut's progress; the Rite of Isis was performed on the Saturday morning. Despite the knowing that she was dying for such a long time in advance, it was a heavy burden for Badru to bear. His companions were respectfully silent on the issue, and he recognised the importance of appearing strong and rested before the enemies of Pharaoh. There were event times when he did manage to forget, for a few moments, that his wife was finally gone, only to be brought back to the fact moments later through a turn of phrase or the scent of a medicinal compound on the wind.

Since the start of the annual, he has accrued further cause for despair at an alarming rate. :)
