The Marriage of Mallan (mostly to the tune of American Pie)

Chorus (between each second verse) When Mallan and his lady did meet, She made him shiver in the river and she snowed on his feet, She was the only person that he couldn't defeat, And so he chose to join with what he couldn't beat. (he chose to join what he couldn't beat)

1. A long time ago, in the time Before, Mallan wed with Mother Nature, and swore to cherish her for evermore, At first it was all birds and bees, And little leaves growing on the trees, And the people down on bended knees, And they saw that it was good...

2. But after happy spring, comes summer births, And the creatures spread across the Earth, And the land began to seem quite full, It takes a lot of grain and meat, To keep that much livestock on its feet, And this was when the young were still quite small...

Chorus

3. Nature began to look quite thin, Her once-rosy cheeks got sunken in, Although she still was fierce and wild and free, Mallan got annoyed at this, He said "Those cheeks are mine to kiss, and no-one does this to the wife of me!"

4. He laid her down safe on their bed, And told her not to raise her pretty head, Until he'd made things as they ought to be, "No longer do you work at their behest, providing all that grass and flesh. Now those beasts can damn well work for you..."

Chorus

5. Mallan appeared on Earth and stamped his feet, And summoned all the creatures that eat meat, And walked amongst them picking those to slay, When half were dead, he told the rest, "I think you'll find it's for the best, For you to do exactly as I say..."

6. "From now on you will hunt the sick, the foolhardy and the not-so-quick - You will not allow the weak to live" So the animals fell down and prayed, And none of them has disobeyed, For fear of the slow death Mallan would give...

Chorus

7. And up in Heaven, flowers grew, And Nature bloomed as Mallan slew, And the god looked on his wife with pride, So now the creatures have no rest, For after birth soon comes swift death, And only the select few will survive...

8. But even so, the fields are green, And animals are often seen, But not too many, so they all can feed, And Mallan and his lovely wife, Are full of love and free from strife, And this is what we definitely need...

Chorus
