Five Word Concept: Maverick Wood-Fay Army Captain
Vera comes from a large Village in the Centre. Her family were wealthy landowners, as close as the village had to nobility. As per tradition, her oldest sister was to inherit the family's farm and her younger brother was went to a Wood Monastery, while she joined the village militia at twelve and the local branch of the army as soon as she was old enough. She excelled as a soldier. One day, during a routing scouting mission, her unit was ambushed by a group of bandits with a trained bear. Her sergeant was killed in the ambush and the troops were panicking, but Vera rapidly took control of the situation. Under Vera's command, they regrouped and fought off the bandits, with Vera delivering the killing blow to the bandit leader. After this, she was sent to Officer School.
As a Sargent, and later as a Lieutenant, Vera was known for her unusual, yet effective strategies. She was known for working alongside local militias and for recruiting bandit groups in order to complete missions. She was quite an anomaly among the officers of the Army of the Centre, preferring to spend meals and recreational time with her troops. Her troops loved her, and even her fellow officers had to admit that she had guts and gumption unlike most Lieutenants.
After the Breaking, she was transferred to Fiveways. There, she identified Colonel Faulkner, Colonel of the Army of the Centre, as the perpetrator of several murders of students in the nearby Army Academy. She raised a large group of influential citizens to attempt to capture him. Rumour goes that when she was stopped and reprimanded by a General for raising a rabble, she replied, "But it was a rabble with a cause!" Although this initial attempt failed, she later led a military operation that succeeded in capturing and executing Faulkner. For this, she was rewarded the rank of Captain.
Currently, Vera is busy adjusting to all the responsibilities her new rank brings. In her spare time, she likes playing with the Academy's pet wuffalo, attending rituals to the totem spirits, and socializing around Fiveways.

CHARACTER MEMES
What does their bedroom look like?
- What are the standard officer facilities at Fiveways like? I guess the most distinctive things about where I am is that I have a quilt with wood symbols embroidered on my bed. Mum and I worked on it together when I was around fourteen, and I'm still very proud of it.
Do they have any daily rituals?
- I wake up at the crack of dawn to feed the wuffalo. I know we've hired a local kid to feed 'em, but they just brighten my day.
Do they exercise, and if so, what do they do? How often?
- I used to spend all day rushing around, running drills, and sometimes leading missions myself... But now I'm a captain, I spend more time at my desk them I like, so I've started joining the academy kids in their afternoon drills. Keeps me fit, and keeps them on their toes, haha!
What would they do if they needed to make dinner but the kitchen was busy?
- I'm no cook, I'm happy with whatever grub's in the mess hall. But I suppose if I wanted to cook, I could do a little roast over a fire... maybe some potatoes in a pot... Could manage a stew in a pinch. Main thing about cooking is being sensible, anyway.
Cleanliness habits (personal, workspace, etc.)
- I keep all my clothes clean and ready for action, though I'm not one for ironing. I suppose I don't shine my plate enough, though. I'm just too busy. Maybe I should ask a cadet to do it?
Eating habits and sample daily menu
- As I said, whatever is in the mess hall.
Favorite way to waste time and feelings surrounding wasting time
- I like to hang out around Fiveways. I like to go where the evokers and chanellers go - there's always action there! Plus, it means I can keep a friendly eye on things.
Favorite indulgence and feelings surrounding indulging
- I like a drink now and then, and if someone offers to go to bed with me and aren't gross about it, I'll probably take them up on it.
Makeup?
- I think it's pretty, but I don't really have the time. Love it on others, though.
Worries and Stress Triggers? Pet peeves? What do they do about them?
- I worry about my troops. I get stressed when bureaucracy gets in the way of justice. I find people who don't understand the concept of meritocracy and reform through appropriate channels annoying as fuck. When things get me down, I work harder.
Intellectual pursuits?
- I like strategy games, and even though I'm not a chaneller or evoker, I'm fascinated by ritual and spirits.
Favorite book genre?
- I like a bit of fiction, but exciting biographies are my favourite!
Sexual Orientation? And, regardless of own orientation, thoughts on sexual orientation in general?
- If I think they're sexually attractive, I'm sexually attracted to them.
Physical abnormalities? (Both visible and not, including injuries/disabilities, long-term illnesses, food-intolerances, etc.)
- I'm a wood fay, so I have some iridescent green stripes. Plus, I have horns - They're pretty and I like 'em a lot, though they make wearing hats hard
Biggest and smallest short term goal?
- I don't really have goals, I take things as they come and rely on my intelligence and instincts.
Biggest and smallest long term goal?
- See above. Though... Perhaps I could be a Colonel someday.
Preferred mode of dress and rituals surrounding dress
- I used to wear my armour all the time, but as an officer, I have taken to wearing a woolen jacket with embroidered flowers rather than my plate. Other than that, I wear a lot of green, and I like to decorate my horns.
Favorite beverage?
- Depends what mood I'm in.
What do they think about before falling asleep at night?
- I think through my plans for the next day, and sometimes worry about paperwork.
Childhood illnesses? Any interesting stories behind them?
- Not really. It was weird when my horns grew in, though. I was eleven. My scalp itched, then ached. I was moody, I had a stripey bruise-like rash... After about a month, things settled down and I had little baby stripes and horn-nubs.
Turn-ons? Turn-offs?
- I don't like creepy, pushy people. I like fun, relaxed people.
Given a blank piece of paper, a pencil, and nothing to do, what would happen?
- I'd probably make a paper flyer, or I'd doodle lines and squares and loops.
How organized are they? How does this organization/disorganization manifest in their everyday life?
- Semi-organised? I just do my best to have the stuff I need where I need it when I need it.
Is there one subject of study that they excel at? Or do they even care about intellectual pursuits at all?
- I just try to do whatever I'm doing to the best of my abilities. But I am very good at picking up and remembering information.
How do they see themselves 5 years from today?
- Hopefully, doing what I'm doing now. Perhaps I'll have another promotion around then...
Do they have any plans for the future? Any contingency plans if things don’t workout?
- To keep working hard at my job. If I somehow lose my commission, then I'll finally organize the Fiveways militia, since it's crap at the moment.
What is their biggest regret?
Who do they see as their best friend? Their worst enemy?
- Best friend? Probably Sedge?
- In these changing times, it's hard to say who is an enemy and how dangerous they are. But my biggest personal enemy so far was Col. Faulkner. He's dead now.
Reaction to sudden extrapersonal disaster (eg The house is on fire! What do they do?)
- Grab my sword and move to a safe position from where I can assess who would be most useful where.
Reaction to sudden intrapersonal disaster (eg close family member suddenly dies)
Most prized possession?
Thoughts on material possessions in general?
- They're ok, but too many is hard to carry around.
Concept of home and family?
- I love my family, but *home* is where my troops are.
Thoughts on privacy? (Are they a private person, or are they prone to ‘TMI’?)
- Privacy is a little suspicious. I don't care about privacy. People who care about others finding out what they are doing are probably doing something wrong. Or they're on special secret business, which is ok.
What activities do they consider to be a waste of time?
- The stupid shit the reformists do. They don't understand that true reform comes within and grows! They waste all this time yelling and throwing pamphlets around, but what are they actually DOING?
- Being evil. Why would you bother when a lot of good people can get a lot more done, and in a more fun way?
What makes them feel guilty?
- When I think of the kids Faulkner killed, I hurt inside. He may be dead now, but the fact that they died at all sickens me.
Are they more analytical or more emotional in their decision-making?
- Both. Just, my analysis often isn't quite the same as other officers'.
Would they consider themselves a Type A or Type B personality?
- I work like a Type A and think like a Type B.
What recharges them when they’re feeling drained?
- Time with my troops. A night on town. Wuffalo milk.
Would you say that they have a superiority-complex? Inferiority-complex? Neither?
- I think that the fact that I have done so well shows how good I am. I am a strong believer in Meritocracy. I know how good I am, and will always act to the best of my abilities.
How misanthropic are they?
- I don't understand how so many officers are misanthropes. Aren't you in the army to serve and protect the people of this country? I love the people around me, and always will. They give me purpose.
Hobbies?
- Strategy games, reading, drinking. If I have time, I like to shine my plate.
How far did they get in formal education? What are their views on formal education vs self-education?
- Mum and Dad made sure I could read and write. I can do enough numbers to get by. I learn a lot by reading.
Religion?
Superstitions or views on the occult?
- Revenants are pitiful. If they got sent back, there was clearly something wrong with their souls, but they don't belong here either. We shouldn't mistreat or destroy them, and they deserve the rights we offer people, but they should accept that they're wrong to exist and we should prioritize the living over them. If I could save one live human or two revenants... I'd save the human. Sorry. ALSO! More of them should join the army! They'd be more useful, and we'd have less living recruits die.
Do they express their thoughts through words or deeds?
If they were to fall in love, who (or what) is their ideal?
- I don't much care for ideal people. I like 'em flawed and real.
How do they express love?
- I'd do almost anything for those I love most. I protect them. Also, I'm a good kisser.
If this person were to get into a fist fight, what is their fighting style like?
- Hit 'em when it hurts most. Enemies get no quarter.
Is this person afraid of dying? Why or why not?
- Yes. I want to keep doing what I'm doing. I want to live.
