Arturo Chesterfield was gay and, as another player put it to me, was "in the closet, if only to himself". Tobias Hess was a long-standing Alias of
[Arturo]'s: a rowdy, rough-housing bandit type with a chin full of stubble and a permanent leer in his eyes. Tobias was vastly less repressed than Arturo, and cruised the bar whenever he was in, looking for fine strong men with luxuriant beards (why he had a beard fixation, I do not know: it happened and I ran with it) to take home for the night and ignore in the morning.
