Mercator Edmonton was a Journeyman at the Ely House of Magickal Endeavour and, frankly, not the nicest guy. The Ely House as a whole were somewhat dismissive of the Colleges of Magic in Grantabrugge: being an elite research establishment that (in their view) took the best and made them better and discovered fundamental truths of the universe, they didn't have the time for all that teaching nonsense, and figured anyone who did as second-rate. Basically, if you remember that post-grad who sat up at the front of the supervision, read a book or did their own work and didn't bother engaging with the class they were supposed to be teaching in the slightest, that's what I was aiming for.

Pity, really, that the fallout from Krsto Vrbnic's ascension blew the roof off their Ritual Centre and killed one of their most promising Journeymen, causing Mercator to visit the idiot tinkerers of the Wessex Arms and accuse them of meddling with powers far, far beyond their comprehension.

He was in for several weeks, on and off, and was the plot seed and character ref for the Wandering Ritual Circle plot (that was the final resolution of the Krsto Planarity plot, and resulted in the plane of Krsta Carstvo being disentangled from the ritual circle network of the Grantabrugge area and cast free to travel the multiverse).
