It is also seen by some as over-priced, expensive, dominated by cliques of power-gaming munchkins and refs, and fundementally corrupt.
That said, there are few if no other organisations that do events on the scale of 4000 people battles, build props covering half an acre and three stories tall, including interior decorating, or which attract so many traders and international gamers.
The system is simplistic, locational hit-points, ablative armour, and 1 hpl as human standard. The magic system is reliant on power cards, with a small repetiore for each of the few magical classes. Character advancement takes place by means of buying extra skills, which can take ages, or magical rituals, which can go very wrong.
Monsters - some NPCs and dedicated monster crew, with the short talky roles and mooks made up of PCs having some time off. They get paid IC cash for it, too __
Worth also mentioning LT small events which run on weekends throughout autumn-spring. These are free to monster, generally much better roleplaying experiences and there will often be lifts available. Net cost for a weekend of roleplaying == cost of food and some petrol money. Occasionally monsters will get free hot food and heated sleeping areas with bunks.
Events we're likely to be sending people to: 14th-16th October: Harts 4th-6th November: Vipers 11th-13th November: Jackals.
Ask Bryony or Nokesian when he pops up on irc for further information.
Setting note and minor explanation: The LT runs 4 major events over the summer. The Heartland Games (Olympics with swords), 2 Moots (at each one, half the players turn up to plot against the other half), and the Gathering (Everybody there, a huge fight, and usually the end of the world again).
There are, currently, ten nations or Factions: Bears, Dragons, Wolves, Gryphons, Lions, Harts, Unicorns, Jackals, Vipers and Tarantulas.
There are also ten Guilds of various stature: Mages, Incantors, Healers, Armourers, Archers, Militia, Bards, Alchemists, Scouts and the Bank.
Each of these groups runs their own events, and these are the smaller winter season events. Between their own campaigns and internal plots, parliments and parties, it is probably possible to go to an LT event every weekend from September to May.
