MorkaisChosen/JustinDuMesne

Last and eternal scion of the line of du Mesne, Priest of Vivamort and Lich.

Justin outlasted two murderous fake Azraelites and two <ic opinion>irritating fools who wouldn't know self-respect if it returned from the dead and strangled them</ic opinion>. Became a Lich by Ultimate Faith (plus some preparation) rather than be stabbed by Taff, and successfully escaped into the night to character retirement.

Has had a miracle do what it was meant to do before he finished the vocal, and survived two outings of the Inter-Faith Anti-Undead Coalition.

< Jim> MorkaisChosen: Yes, your PC is an expert with dual-wielded bastard diplomaces

Justin didn't achieve everything he wanted to, but is fairly certain that by prioritising stopping them doing That Thing With Azrael over doing it himself, he has... not failed, let's say, the task he was given and is unlikely to suffer a terminal Spirit Wrack.

(Because you can't be nice all the time...)

Aspects!

(For people not familiar with the idea: I've nicked it from FATE, it's essentially character-defining traits that can be an advantage or a disadvantage. Basically doing this as a mental exercise much like the various character memes.)

And some meme, why not?

Italic answers are at the point of retirement, post 2012/13 PBB.

1. Your character is being announced at the Royal Ball by the most pompous, enthusiastic and long-winded Master of Ceremonies in recorded history. What do they declaim?

Justin, last of the Line of du Mesne, Founder and High Priest of the Grantabrugge Temple of Vivamort, the King of Vampires.

Justin, last and eternal scion of the Line of du Mesne, Lich of the Host Immortal, Founder and High Priest Emeritus of the Grantabrugge Temple of Vivamort, the King of Vampires.

2. Give a 6-word backstory and/or history for your character, prior to their entering play - it is needed for the character bio on the back cover of this season's DVD.

Noble blood. Necromantic power. Giant ego.

3. However improbable it may seem, your character just won a boasting competition. What was their winning boast?

"I was chosen by the King of Vampires to build his Temple and his Church in this city."

"My ascent to Lichdom and immortality was empowered by six souls bound to my will under the watchful gaze of a Justicar and a Humacti who would have taken any excuse available to kill me."

4. Your character loses a hand irrevocably, and is given the opportunity to have something grafted on to replace it. What do they pick?

Nothing less than a hand of shining obsidian, set with rubies. Spare holy symbols, style, and arrogance...

As above, if for some reason this seems like a better idea than focusing the will that transcends death to form a new hand from pure spiritual power.

5. What one impossible thing would you most like to have, be, or be able to do, in order to better physrep your character?

The ability to gather evil-looking glowy darkness around one or both hands, for full "I am a Priest of Vivamort. Do you understand what that means?" type effect.

As above and/or discorporation and creation of a new body.

6. Your character is asked by their immediate superior which one thing they would choose to save from their dwelling, were it on fire. Sensing that a flippant answer is not called for, how do they instead answer?

His mother's ring.

His phylactery - that is, his mother's ring.

7. Your character was abducted by Nightmares (or local equivalent) on the way out of the Arms, and wakes up in a sack (just as armed as they left the pub). What do they have in their pockets, and what one further thing do they wish they had also picked up from home this morning?

Rapier, rings on each hand, and little else. Justin doesn't have many possessions; depending on the situation, a handy corpse *might* be useful, but chances are he'd have no need for it.

Rapier and just one ring. There's little else Justin might want, though a few souls as a snack might help.

8. Your character's life is flashing before their eyes. Describe briefly any two of the following: Leaving their childhood home. Losing their first love. The first time they killed. The first time they lost a comrade. Another occasion on which they nearly died. A time they lowered their standards. A time they abandoned hope. Something that terrified them.

The house, the lands belonged to his stepfather's brother now- there was no chance Justin would call him "uncle," he was not of his blood- and there was nothing left for him here. Turning to look back at the house in which he was born, his lip curls in an angry, affronted sneer, and he turns on his heel, striding away and toying with the ring on his left hand. Someday, he would return...

That damnable Skaven has seen me slipping away, and is following. Words spill from my mouth to hold him, but he's too close - I lose my sword arm to a vicious knife blow. I gain a lead, but his power fixes me in place and I know my life is over. There is only one chance left.

"BY MY ULTIMATE FAITH I CLAIM IMMORTALITY!"

A flash of power courses through me, and I know my mortal flesh is gone, replaced by something new - and far more potent. I feel my soul in the ring on my finger, surrounded the bound power of the souls of those I have killed, and I know my might is far greater now than any of these mortals.

He has slipped away, the Skaven, but I hear him calling for Althea - and I will not waste the eternity I have seized. I turn, run, hear them behind me, and know it is time to escape. I trust the Morvanians to do what they will do - their creation will not ape my Lord's powers, there are few who I would believe lack that distaste for the power over Undeath he claims as his and his alone.

I lose my pursuers and slip away into the dark. There will be plenty of time for me to do great things - for now, I need only find safety.

9. Your character wakes up in a Militia cell with no clear memories of their last few hours. Given time to think it over, why will they conclude they are there?

The Watch didn't believe that the deceased was illegally raising undead and assaulting people with them; alternatively, accidental killing in a self-defence situation.

Apparently my phylactery is in here somewhere.

10. Your character was obliged to leave town. As they fled, they left messages with a trusted friend. Most of them dealt with religious and social obligations, and put in place provision for their return (or otherwise) - but they found time for one quick personal note. Who is it to, and roughly what does it say?

Formerly: "Darville- keep my temple ready for my return. I will repay the disrespect I have been shown." Now: to the new High Priest - "Do not bring this temple into disrepute. This I command in Vivamort's name. When I return, disobedience will be repaid sevenfold."
