Name: Imayn Ward

Occupation: Journeyman Mage. Not from the college of water, thank you very much.

Status: Seems to be refining her doom field.

Imayn is in Grantabrugge to study magic. Eventually one of her supervisors decided to hint that she was studying too hard and needed to get out more. So she started going to the Wessex arms in the hope that as the local pub to several of the colleges that there would be some other mages there to talk to. And so for a brief happy period there was student mage corner with discussions of spells and prank rituals and she got to rebel against the stuffy attitude of her college by being best friends with a Drow.

Unfortunately her first set of friends mostly managed in short succession to have horrific accidents or go missing with Faye dying in a ritual circle, Cygnet missing and presumed dead and Alasdair Truesight missing and being accused of sacrificing children or some other such horrid nonsense.

In an attempt to distract herself from the fact that all her friends were dead and missing she then managed to get involved with trying to help a warlock find out what had happened to the ritual circle. This led to a series of highly strange events starting with bleeding into the ritual circle until she could barely walk then leaving the city on a quest the morning afterwards while still suffering from blood loss. Then people around her lied a lot, it turned out the people responsible for the problem were actually not evil and then she stood in an exploding ritual circle while being shot at, bombed the plane Hobb, accidentally killed another of her friends and teleported herself off prime to the plane that she’d just bombed landing on her friend's rather pulped body. She wasn’t particularly happy about that chain of events.

And unsurprisingly neither was Hobb.

She ended up spending some very unpleasant length of time stuck halfway into the plane of Hobb slowly loosing her sanity.

After eventually getting rescued by Abel, Talis, Gawain and Milton, Imayn is now slowly recovering (due in no small part to the support she’s been given by her college which has very much led her to re-evaluate some of her previous opinions) but retaining several nervous twitches and a frequent desire to check she still has toes.

Attempting to get over that set of experiences she buried herself in studying and writing a paper on the workings of demon planes and with the intention of not going on stupid not fully explained missions anymore, although there was a slight incident includeing opening a portal to the bottom of the prime through the floor of the wessex arms with Milton and dropping a demon beacon through it (but that didn't really count as too inadvisable as the other options included Children of the Light or Warlocks).

Eventually due to her submissions to the college library she was promoted to Journeyman status. More recently her brother died as hibernians swept through the cymric marshes including her home town. This has not made her any happier.

OOC win conditions

Points of damage taken past armour by source

Ritual circles or feeding blood into ritual circles: >12 (where a greater than sign indicates being taken to bleeding on a location (twice), and being bled down a round of hits and to non-combatant)
Monsters: 10
Other PCs: 2

To the casual observer it may quickly become clear that Imayn operates between three modes that follow a well defined cycle.

Mode 1: Traumatised. This is characterised by nervousness, going invisible at the drop of a hat and excessive studying.
Mode 2: Bored.
Mode 3: In trouble. Generally made obvious by the extremely wide grin and cackling; this may involve pretending to be undead for a laugh, accidental planar transportation, making holes through to the base of the prime and 'accidental' summoning of fae.
Mode 3 feeds back to mode 1.

Memes

1. Your character is being announced at the Royal Ball by the most pompous, enthusiastic and long-winded Master of Ceremonies in recorded history. What do they declaim?

Imayn Ward, Journeyman Traveller of the Grantabrugge Brotherhood of Magic

2. Give a 6-word backstory and/or history for your character, prior to their entering play - it is needed for the character bio on the back cover of this season's DVD.

Girl seeks independence through learning magic.

3. However improbable it may seem, your character just won a boasting competition. What was their winning boast?

Hard to pick. I'm still alive despite getting thrown off the prime by an exploding ritual and ending up on the highly angry plane that I'd just bombed with magical energy. I've summoned the elemental lord of light *twice* and didn't die horribly. I've helped kill a god and then I sold half my soul in order to stop one of my closest friends dying from that god's curse.

4. Your character loses a hand irrevocably, and is given the opportunity to have something grafted on to replace it. What do they pick?

Another hand if that’s possible, otherwise what was the point of learning Refracted Cage of Light.

5. What one impossible thing would you most like to have, be, or be able to do, in order to better physrep your character?

Some way of physreping the magical powers.

6. Your character is asked by their immediate superior which one thing they would choose to save from their dwelling, were it on fire. Sensing that a flippant answer is not called for, how do they instead answer?

Glimmer.

7. Your character was abducted by Nightmares (or local equivalent) on the way out of the Arms, and wakes up in a sack (just as armed as they left the pub). What do they have in their pockets, and what one further thing do they wish they had also picked up from home this morning?

Focus, notebook with brief notes on the most useful things I’ve learnt, ritual aids and some small change. If my empowered magic weapon is in the sack then it’s a very large sack. Beyond wishing I’d walked home with a friend, something that is actually practical to use to cut your way out a sack with, as a spear is decidedly not.

8. Your character's life is flashing before their eyes. Describe briefly any two of the following: Leaving their childhood home. Losing their first love. The first time they killed. The first time they lost a comrade. Another occasion on which they nearly died. A time they lowered their standards. A time they abandoned hope. Something that terrified them.

There is the faint smell of ozone in the air that she associates with blue magic and Faye moves with grace and surety of purpose in the centre of the circle. Imayn's lack of actual ritual experience makes the idea of her supposedly helping keeping an eye on it a joke in itself. The warlock returns though and so she wanders away feeling that everything is left in safe hands.

It’s only when she gets back to find Faye’s body curled in the circle as if she were asleep that she realises she walked out on the chance to save that friend. And then a week later Cygnet goes missing on a mission to fight the undead, a mission he’d asked if she’d go on as well but she’d refused to. After that the corner of the bar tucked away behind the ritual circle, which before had been a place of free chatter about newly learned spells and theories of ritual magic becomes a lonelier place.

Her father and had grandfather told her stories of great battles and the aftermaths. Of bodies so mangled that they couldn't be recognised and only their allegiance could be derived from the remains of their colours. This body is so mangled that it can barely be recognised as a body at all.

A short time later the ground eats the remnants, but she doesn't think her soul will ever be clean.

It's only a flash of orange out of the corner of her eye. But then the world darkens in from the edges of her vision. Mist and shadows swirl, half concealing spindly figures moving in the distance. Vines appears and disappear from the thirsty ground seeking sustenance. All feeling in her legs is gone and the ground shifts beneath her feel as if to split asunder. Screams echo briefly before dwindling to the merest of whispers.

Her eyes open to sunlight and a passing patrol. The pumpkin sits innocently next to the statue as she flees the market as if the hounds of hell were behind her.

It could possible be considered a lowering of her standards to be reduced to brawling in a bar, but with the alcohol singing in her veins a harmony above the still suppressed keening grief it seems somehow vaguely appropriate to swing the first punch. A short flight across the bar and a collision with a table later then the deeper murmur of wine dulled agony joins the symphony. She comes up again swinging, straight into the next punch to her jaw.

It's not until the morning when the pain of sobriety and a politely but sternly worded note arrive that she regrets any of it.

9. Your character wakes up in a Militia cell with no clear memories of their last few hours. Given time to think it over, why will they conclude they are there?

Well last time it was for breaching the peace. But really they could be so many reasons

10. Your character was obliged to leave town. As they fled, they left messages with a trusted friend. Most of them dealt with religious and social obligations, and put in place provision for their return (or otherwise) - but they found time for one quick personal note. Who is it to, and roughly what does it say?

Keshrel. Glimmer likes to eat toast with honey, also socks. Look after her for me will you. Imayn

11. What do you look like? / What are you wearing and why

Due to a couple of recent incidents involving arrows and things like that I've taken to wearing dark green leather armour for the small amount of protection it affords. When in less life threatening situations (the wessex arms counts as a life threatening situation) I tend to wear a dress. (Green not white as I don't feel the need to conform to High Elf dress codes or white robes)'

12. Where do you live?

I have a room in the college of light. It conforms to the general style of college rooms having little in it beyond bed and a desk. The desk has a spattering of books and some half written notes on it. Also a cup of what look like faintly glowing furballs. On a closer examination almost everything within it has small chew marks on them and the lower part of the curtains have several rips. You would be forgiven for making the assumption that a horde of angry kittens live in it rather than just one mage and a familiar.

13. How do you support yourself / your dependents?

I don't. My grandfather is kind enough to fund my studies at the colleges of magic. I really ought to consider finding ways to support myself. I don't think I'm really cut out for teaching though. Glimmer is easy to look after, seeing as the main thing she eats is magic. Also everything she can find and bite. Luckily she's stopped chewing fingers

14. Why on earth do you come to the Wessex Arms on a Friday night?

Initially because my supervisor thought I should get out more. I'm not quite sure why I keep going.

15. Who do you normally hang out with and why?

It used to be Cygent, as he was interesting, Faye, because she was good at rituals and Alasdair Truesight because he knew lots about planar magics and ritual magic. Unfortunately they're all dead.

Now it's mostly Abel, because I like his sense of humour. Occasionally other mages like Milton, Will or Keshrel.

16. Anyone you avoid? why?

The Children of the Light. I dislike being stared at like I'm the slime under their feet.
