Meredith Martin is the daughter of a lay Morvanian village herbalist, and grew up creeping through the local lord's woodlands after herbs for her father. Being a bright child, she was sent off to the nearest Temple of Morvana at the age of fourteen, to make herself useful, learn to read and write, and perhaps one day make it to the priesthood. Meredith stayed there for five years under the eye of the elderly priestess who had charge of the infirmary, and over the years learned her craft as a doctor and surgeon well, as far as her mentor was able to teach her, besides improving her woodcraft under the tutelage of the abler members of the temple. The old infirmarian died when Meredith was eighteen, much to her sorrow; and Meredith being considered too young to replace her, especially as she was not awakened, a new priest arrived to take charge. She and Meredith disliked each other immediately, and it was little more than a year later before Meredith took her leave of the place. She went back to live at home for a while, but quickly realised that she no longer belonged in her village unless she wanted to marry and have children - not something amongst her ambitions. So Meredith packed her bags again, and set out across the country, eventually fetching up in the Grantabrugge Temple of Morvana.
Meredith is a member of the Scouts' Guild, and a priest of Morvana. While she does work for both, doctoring is her real profession, and she spends most of her time doing home visits and a fair amount of work for the Laundresses, though *not* as a member, she hastens to point out. Wears green, has a Bag of Many Bottles, and a propensity to lecture people on wound cleanliness and whether they are Being Stupid. Likes singing. Not A Lesbian Damn It. May or may not be a Humourless Feminazi. Enquiries regarding her personal life are likely to result in heads getting bitten off.
