Darya is now with the Smith. She is a happy little spirit because she is with lots of other happy spirits, and she doesn't have to worry about people dying horribly anymore.
Darya Marisova was born and raised a good little Teacherite in Yugorsk, Fidelia. Being neat-fingered and bright, and born to a wealthy, Teacher-fearing middle-class family, she started learning the skills of surgery at a comparatively young age. She was good (mostly), respectful (sometimes), modest (...occasionally...), and... no, devout would be an utter lie.
By the time she turned sixteen, adolescent rebellion kicked in, and never left. She stole her father's coat and ran away from home, and found herself a life of hanging around the docks conversing with interesting characters and dealing in interesting substances. She stopped wearing petticoats, stopped covering her hair, stopped being a virgin, and started a great many other things. One was a friendship with Jean de Winter, a young Freibodener, whose smile and sense of humour persuaded her on board ship and into a great many tight corners - if only to stop him doing anything really stupid.
It was the same smile and sense of humour - and some fast talking - that got her on board a ship to cross the Maelstrom, several years later, with the promise of a brand new world just full of opportunity...
