Little Abington Scout Camp is a place where we tend to have bigger events, because it's nice, close, wooded and has a chocolate ice-cream centre.

Because we tend to direct people there a lot, I'm writing this page. OP is Aquarion. He does not have a chocolate ice-cream centre.

A lot of this text was taken from the 2007 Banquet Email, Its centre is made of marshmallow, so you shouldn't microwave it. Rosemary wrote that email. Any ice-cream centre references are Aquarion's, however.

This page is now rather mangled from the 2007 email, but I'm leaving the above in because of the ice cream.

Contacts

You're lost, you're somewhere in Cambridgeshire, it's getting dark and the wolves are closing in?

It's a good idea to have contact numbers for people who will be on site, or can send some kind of wheeled device owner to come and find you.

The wolves do not have ice-cream centres.

By Car

From CAMBRIDGE:

Go to Addenbrookes Hospital. Head southish down Hills Road, which becomes the A1307 signposted Linton and Haverhill.

From the SOUTH:

Come off the M11 where it turns into the A11 (junction 9a). Drive northish up the A11 for about five miles, then turn right onto the A1307 signposted to Haverhill and Linton. Little Abington village is about a mile down the road.

From the NORTH:

Come off the M11 at junction 10 (junction 9a is northbound only). Take the A505 east (signposted Duxford), which will then join the A11 about a mile before the turning onto the A1307 as described above.

THEN...

Just past the Acorn garage in Little Abington ( http://goo.gl/maps/ErJh ), turn right onto the High Street, which bears left at Abington Pottery. Here, turn right into Church Lane. Past the first road on the left is a row of bungalows - at the end of this turn left, into the Site Entrance. There is a Scout Association sign up at the entrance but it's often obscured by trees, so go slowly.

The postcode for Church Lane is CB21 6BQ.

By Public Transport

Get a train or a bus to Cambridge. If you got a train, walk up Station Road until you get to a cross-street with a statue of a soldier in the middle, and then turn left. There will be a bus stop there opposite, which looks like this: http://goo.gl/maps/2S8i. Wait at it for a number 13 or 13A bus, as below. It will arrive there about 5-10 minutes after it leaves town, the handy LCD device will cheerfully lie to you in some cases.

If you got the bus to Cambrige, you should hopefully be in or around the bus station. Go to the bit of the bus station with an actual canopy, etc (there are signs everywhere).

Then get a number 13 or 13A bus - these leave from the bus station on the hour and half past exactly until 6.30pm and then at 10 past the hour after that. DO NOT GET THE X13, IT DOES NOT STOP IN LITTLE ABINGTON. The bus should set you back about a fiver.

After 6.30pm, the buses (from 19.10 onwards) actually go TO THE TRAIN STATION, instead of stopping at the aforementioned bus stop.

Which train station is that? Is it far from the site? --Chevron
It's Cambridge train station. --Malselene
Ah I see, that is for people getting to Cam by bus, not the bus to little abington.
Um, what? No, that's for people getting to Cam by train and then bus to site. Clarification: The 13/13A to Little Abington stops at Cambridge railway station in the evenings. --Entimix

(Aquarion adds: I'd highly recommend organising to go up by bus as a group with someone who's done it before, as the stop's pretty anonymous. You might want to organise groups on Maelfroth or #larp on SRCF).

Watch out for the right turn at the Acorn garage ( http://goo.gl/maps/ErJh ) mentioned above in the driving directions; ring the bell as the bus turns right and it will deposit you on Abington High Street just after the right turn into Church Lane. The driving directions should be sufficient at this point.

Alternatively, taxis are available from both the bus and train stations, costing about £20, so are viable if there are groups of three or four of you.

There may also be lifts available from Cambridge - if one would be particularly helpful to you, please contact me.
