Lord Keric Desanq is the scion of a very wealthy and powerful family of territorial magnates in Gaul. He was made High Priest of the temple of Justice in Remens at the age of five as part of his father’s attempts to gain the considerable revenues of the Temple for himself. He was awakened to Justice shortly after. He arrived in Grantabrugge from Gaul, fleeing a coup in Remens which ousted him from the rule of that city. His orders were to remain low-profile, and to that end he made some effort to find out what he could do to help the Watch. After the assassination of Lord Protector Bursaarius, however, he took command of the radically-reduced Watch and led it through the immediate emergency. He then ran for mayor, an election he won due to an astonishing lack of ballot-rigging on the part of the major factions in Grantabrugge. As mayor, he was frustrated by the (in his view) bizarre legal system and surly people of the city, and became increasingly frustrated as his views of what was right increasingly diverged with both popular opinion and his own god, Justice. This came to a head when his sheriff (and secret desire of his heart) Larch was stripped of her post and mutilated by another Justicar, and every stricture upon him forced him to remain inactive. The following week, he apostatised from Justice, resigned as mayor and proposed to Larch. All went off without a hitch, much to his surprise. Soon after, he was recalled to Gaul to retake his city.
Should you go to Gaul today, you would find Lord Keric contentedly in charge of his city, and even more contentedly in matrimonial bliss with Larch. There are still wars, coups, poisonings, revolutions and the inevitable ephemera of Gaulish political life, but it seems to wash over the Archisacerdotal palace in Remens. Looking at the fleur-de-lys on his chest and the ring on his hand, Keric is for the first time in a while truly happy.
