Flails

LRP flails in TT

Empire is going to allow flails of a particular construction. Specifically to my current knowledge: no more than one free link and the rest of the 'chain' to actually be a solid piece of foam. The length of the chain and ball not to exceed that of a sensible sized forearm.

I've made a flail of this spec after talking to the PD weapons checkers. It's seems safe to use and doesn't get tangled round things with any more regularity than an axe might get tangled round a sword (ie. more likely to happen due to bad luck than anything else). We tried it out at Insurrection which was very high combat and the feedback was generally positive and it looked extremely menacing.

I'd be interested to know if people would be ok with them being used in TT. I'm planning to dump my prototype one in the armoury for people to play with for a bit and maybe use while monstering and people can put feedback here.

For TT weapon safety I've generally worked on the principle that if it's ok for PD, it's ok for TT but I realise flails are quite a different type of weapon.

So if you have any thoughts on this, post them here and if you have a go with the flail, post your experiences here. --dp

I would be happy to see them tested out at tt (and have everyone with the advantage of having practised fighting with or against them come Empire. ;) ) --Chevron

I enjoyed playing with it at insurrection, and fighting against it. My personal opinion based on admitidly only a few goes is it will be easier to cause very minor pain, but much harder to cause serious upset (due to the flexible link removing the direct connection between the impact point and the source of the force) --Drac

I'd probably agree with the point about very minor pain. I think it's more on a par with a polearm than anything else in that it's more likely to get an unlucky hit which stings a bit. However, it's going to be hard to get a really nasty hit which really hurts unlike a polearm owing to the fact it's flexible. --dp
Yep. I'm definitely game. --Drac
Right, I'm going to say they're provisionally ok for TT and maybe we could try it out on a linear or two. --dp
