I cannot emphasise enough how we are not barbecuing my village...
However, on Thursday 13th June there's going to be a post exam BBQ at dp's house - 4 Twentypence Road, Cottenham. Starting any time from 6:30 and going on until people go home/to sleep. As outgoing banquet minion, I am declaring this the unofficial TT garden party.
I'll provide a BBQ, a garden and a house along with some salads, bread, crisps etc. and you can bring stuff to throw on the BBQ, even meat. There's a co op within walking distance too.
People are very welcome to stay over - I've got loads of persons of bedding and sleeping stuff kicking around, but let me know if you want to stay, just in case we manage to run out.
Coming
(please say if you might stay over):
- dp (staying over as I live there)
- malselene (staying over)
- Tea is strongly tempted, will attempt to lynch kangaroo into it
- Steph
- Hobnoblin, probably, and will bring a Pia, and I think we'd like to stay over if that's cool?
- Inquisitor, possibly, with a possible Laura.
- Potential Jim, would like to stay over if so.
- Quite possibly Jewelcast, who can't quite recall right now what other things she has already committed to. Would like to sleep over if it works out.
- Drac
- salavant (would like to stay over if poss, can bring sleeping bag)
- Possibly Nyeti, likely to stay over if it's ok
- Garuda may wander through at some point
- Aardvark and Bridget (Be there 7ish)
- Prolly Tristan/Zebbie? (not staying over)
Getting there
The no. 8 bus goes to Cottenham and you get off near the village sign and a building called the Cottenham Club and near an indian restaraunt and a garage and walk towards the church and on a bit. Buses do go back at fairly late times but you can stay over and get a morning bus too.
You can cycle there - it's really not that hard. Basically you just go to the end of Histon Road, cross the A14 over the roundabout and cycle through Histon, and then keep going. Be sure to use the big cycle path on the right hand side of the road after Histon though. Then you cycle all the way through Cottenham and you get to my house. It'll take about 30 - 40 mins. Again, you can stay over and not have to cycle both ways on one day.
Cars can park round the back. Don't park at the front, you'll cause a road accident.
- Hobnoblin and Pia would like to steal a lift if there is one available.
- I will be going in the Nyetimobile, so can pick you up (and up to one other person), ideally from the north side of town. Let me know what works. -- Nyeti
- Jewelcast would not object to being given a lift, if lifts are going free.
Not coming
- Newts are eating my social life. Damned work --Kelpie
- Shall be heading ODC-wards that day --dwm
- I disbelieve your cycle times --Joey
- Gmaps says 35 mins from your house and I usually find it realistic. It takes me about 25 mins into town so I'd added 5 - 15 mins onto that in my estimate to account for most people. --dp
- Gmaps says actually 50 minutes from our house to twentypence road... -ahdok :)
- No it doesn't, it says 35 mins. However, I know that my cycling speed is a lot slower than the google bike. --Joey
- I like to imagine that the google bike has been souped up and features both advanced pedestrian and dangerously driven car avoidance, as well as some sort of electrical turbo boost, but sadly spouts ads at you whenever you pass a business -androidkiller
- Or maybe like this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-22887729 - androidkiller
- So a few of us tried it today and got different answers - it's possible it learn stuff about your legs if you have a smartphone with GPS. Hence why me assuming it was pessimistic but adding some was in fact not the greatest idea. More experimentation is needed! --dp
