Firstly, I note that you could probably play D&D4 as a perfectly good wide game by emplacing a grid of ropes on a big field and just playing rules as written, complete with everyone carrying a little tray to roll dice on and someone (possibly with a megaphone) calling the initative order. Once it gets three-dimensional you might need some kind of whiteboard-enabled tabard with your height above the ground on it written on you front and back.

Secondly, I have this vague desire to do a proper D&D4 LARP conversion. I started doing a very straight conversion but it swiftly began to scream at me 'I am the really awful fantasy LARP system that your 13 year old brother came up with and inflicted on his mates, getting on for thirty years ago, stop writing me' so now I am trying a more 'flavour + what I know works in LARP' approach. I am keeping it safe in Google Documents in case it decides to come and bite me though.
