One of the benefits of playing an Awakened at Maelstrom (they consist of three magical races, of sentient statues, crystals or trees) is that you can have a very, very short background for a character, thus having all the major events in their life happen in uptime.
Potch's background, as submitted to the people who run Maelstrom, is about five sentences long and contains the words "FOR SCIENCE". This says almost all you need to know about the character. :)
