A friend, who is also a LARPer, posted this today:

LARP PEOPLE! Could all the larpers that see this please respond!
I have a friend who makes latex movie props who is willing to make a job lot of photorealistic larp weapons, I've seen them and they do NOT look like they are made out of plastic - they look metal. I'm thinking of getting a job-lot of an item, and selling them between friends.
Question 1: for £30 would you buy a photorealistic short melee weapon?
Question 2: What would you want? I'm thinking of a claw hammer, but options include wrench, bit of pipe, short sword, etc. (I only get the really good price if it's a job lot of the same item)

So I thought I'll throw it out in the open to gauge interest from TT members.
- This interests Drac, who would probably get a sword
- Pufferfish is interested, would prefer a sword or hammer as it looks OK in a lot more systems than a wrench or a pipe.
- Taxellor is interested, again for sword.
- Chevron would be interested in a sword, would they definitely be LARP-safe? Are they injection molded? Can we see a picture?
- SevenSecrets would be interested in a short sword, and would also like to see a picture.
- Inquisitor would probably be most interested in a reproduction mace design, but failing that, the more outlandish the better. Again, I'd be interested in some indication as to quality/durability before committing sight unseen. --I
- Again, would like to see an example. Would be interested in some sort of improvised weapon. Hammer, pipe, crowbar... --Jim
- Do we know if they'll pass regular larp weapon safety as movie props may have rather different construction. I can look at one and tell you if it'd be likely to pass at PD events (and TT). --dp
- Having seen that photo, I would totally like a hammer --Joey
- So are they made from 'plastic', or are they actually LARP weapons with cored foam and latex and the required safety standards? --Zebbie

I got in touch with Jonty, and he said that he hasn't seen them, but will make all the necessary inquiries, including photos, before putting in a whole order. I will let you know more once I know more.
OK, apparently the maker revealed that *both* of the hammers are fake o_O

(let me know if this doesn't work)
Looks cool, are there any photos of the swords? --Chevron
Will we be able to handle any kind of sample at any point? I'd rather not risk a load of new weapons failing safety. --dp
Did anything ever come of this? --Chevron
Well, the hammer was made, did a number of rounds and the parties and somehow got broken (I am not sure how). If people would like, I can investigate further regarding price / current location of the broken hammer (you can see the insides) etc. --RainbowKitten
