Alchemist with a thick accent, sawn-off polearm and a casual disdain for such professional rules as "do not feed stimulants to the Kender". Currently a Quartermaster for the Army. Planned and executed a successful sabotage and infiltration mission againt the Queen's army since it was essentially "poison EVERYTHING!" and he's used to that. This was helped by managing to bullshit his way past fights or turn them into one-sided ganks by pretending to be reinforcements. "We're All Reasonable People Here" was of course employed. Wrecked most of an army's worth of weapons and armour, gassed a command tend, then went off the peace meeting and got stoned on Alchemy.
Smells of booze, smoke, chemicals and booze. Before settling in Grantabrugge, Bil somehow got conscripted into the King's Army, where he supplemented his pay as a low-ranking healer by distilling alcohol from anything that wouldn't actually crawl out of his mash tun or still. Bil joined the Mercenaries as opposed to the Alchemists because they seem certain to provide a continual stream of vict... er patients for his apothecary skills, and he runs out of them he can always create some more on official Mercenary business. The mercenaries appear to trust him enough to let him near the casualties, but not enough that he's allowed a better lab than the disused latrine. He hangs out in the Wessex Arms for broadly similar reasons, plus the free booze saves him having to drink his own stuff all the time. The reason he spells his name with only one "l" is because it winds up smartarsed wordy types.
Memes
1. Your character is being announced at the Royal Ball by the most pompous, enthusiastic and long-winded Master of Ceremonies in recorded history. What do they declaim? Bil Harkins, Purveyor of Potent Potions, Potables and Pharmaceuticals to the Pecunious Punter! Master Distiller of Harkins' Hooch and Veteran Apothecary of the King's Army!
2. Give a 6-word backstory and/or history for your character, prior to their entering play - it is needed for the character bio on the back cover of this season's DVD. Blew Up His Still, Needs Money.
3. However improbable it may seem, your character just won a boasting competition. What was their winning boast? I ruined an entire army's weapons and their general! Hurhurhur!
4. Your character loses a hand irrevocably, and is given the opportunity to have something grafted on to replace it. What do they pick? Urr, Swoggy claws. You can never have too much venom!
5. What one impossible thing would you most like to have, be, or be able to do, in order to better physrep your character? The face of Bill Bailey, AKA the 1987 International Face of Hemp.
6. Your character is asked by their immediate superior which one thing they would choose to save from their dwelling, were it on fire. Sensing that a flippant answer is not called for, how do they instead answer? My still, 'cause if that goes up, the whole Mercenary's guild's gonna be a smokin' 'ole what smells of whiskey.
7. Your character was abducted by Nightmares (or local equivalent) on the way out of the Arms, and wakes up in a sack (just as armed as they left the pub). What do they have in their pockets, and what one further thing do they wish they had also picked up from home this morning? Various bottles of reagents, money, and my Sciencing Book. I wish I'd picked up a pie, Im bloody hungry now.
8. Your character's life is flashing before their eyes. Describe briefly any two of the following: Leaving their childhood home. Losing their first love. The first time they killed. The first time they lost a comrade. Another occasion on which they nearly died. A time they lowered their standards. A time they abandoned hope. Something that terrified them.
First time I killed were the first time I lost a comrade too. Weren't in battle, so we're clear I didn't go stabbing my mates in a fight. It was an old soldier on the surgeon's table, back when I were learning. Hells, I didn't know how to amputate a leg when it'd gone rotten. Just picked up my axe and hacked it off. The poor sod bled out there before the healer could see to him. I stick to potions these days, pokin' about in a man's as likely to kill as cure with my butterfingers. Wish I had the brewin' tricks then I 'ave now. He'd be alive. Lopsided, but alive.
Something that scared the shite out of me? I'd have to say that riding a burning ship into a Hibernian fleet, then realising we'd need to keep jumping across boats like bouncin' swogs so we didn't get caught in the fire. I were wearing chainmail, so one slip'd be a watery grave for sure. Leggin' it through a bunch of 'eavily armed screaming lunatics and burning demons while the boat went up in flames behind me is not a thing what I plan to do ever again. Still, a bad plan's better'n no plan!
1. How do you look different to your player? Ur, I got me a longer beard, more muscle and more beergut to go with it.
2. What are your hobbies or entertainments? Drinkin'. Doin' alchemy to things. Doin' alchemy to booze in the 'ope of creatin' the best stuff in Wessex.
3. How do you support yourself? [he waves a yellow sash in your face] What, ain't this something of a clue? So yeah, fightin' and guardin'. But I'm more an 'ealer than a soldier. Also, I sells whiskey out the back gate of the Mercenaries' Guild. 'Cause them pansies won't let me put the still in the actual building, so it's in a converted er... convenience.
4. What is your home like? It's a big solid building full of armed bastards.
5. What are your most cherished possessions? Me lab, had that welded and cobbled together from about five years worth of battlefield scrap and it still doesn't explode much.
6. What are you proudest of? Finally finding a good way to do this 'ealing malarkey. Can make myself far more useful than just bein' a basher.
7. What are you most ashamed of or feel most guilty about? Botching a surgery. Killing a man by it.
8. Under what circumstances is it justifiable to resort to violence? If you're paid for it. If someone's whomping on your mate. If someone or something's just a plain nasty piece of shit and it needs an end putting to it.
