Discussion/Demographics

What do people think of the idea of tabulating/listing TT demographics (are players mostly students, male/female, also tabletop gamers, religion, have they LARPed elswhere etc)? I have the ominous feeling that it might be a really bad idea for some reason, but I can't work out why. --Jacob
It almost certainly could be a very bad idea, but more to the point why on earth would you want to? --Garath
I like the idea very much. I am an obssesive statistics gatherer though :). I'm not sure why it would be a very bad idea. --ChessyPig

I am failing to think why it might be a bad idea, other than hitting new people for statistics might scare them off, and no one should feel pressurised to contribute.

Why would one want to? I can't see a use for OOC demographics. Now, IC demographics should exist. But that's a separate argument. --Requiem
Because one wanted to make up pseudoscience about LARPers, or possibly just because of the same thing which inspires people to create LJ polls about completely random things. For gathering information about something we are interested in - LARPers. --ChessyPig

I don't see the problem with tabulating info that is already publically known, such as gender and student status, I'd be more wary about starting to include religion/sexuality etc as they are more personal and have greater potential for real world irritation or suspicion (if people don't want to commit to one or the other publically). However, if it is done anon. it should also be less of an issue. --Zebbie
