ArcaneConnections

Motion: Arcane connections decay over time. personal possessions last a week, hair maybe two, blood a month or so and a severed limb/spirit weapon about a year, focuses until their owner empowers a new one.

Hence building up libaries is inhibited, ref keeping track of who has connection to who is made easier, they need to be used shortly after collection and there is actual differentiation in the power of an arcane connection.

I'd also like to discuss such ideas as a) doing something with an Arcane connection burns out the connection, reduces lifespan etc. b) Bigger effects needing Bigger connections. It seems to me that "Ahah, I have stolen your hankerchief, now I unleash my uber-doom curse of extreme unpleasentness and vast pain!!" may be a little silly. Hair or blood I have less problems with. -- Corinthus
I believe that conventionally arcane connections put into a rite get used up by it. Though I guess you might still get to keep the physical bone from the severed arm to wave at the target insultingly or whatever, it wouldn't be useable to curse them again after the first go --Zebbie
I don't like spirit weapons being good arcane connections at all, personally. They contain an intelligent spirit allied with the priest, which is going to find creative ways to futz up your ritual. Also, allow people to sign a contract for their soul in blood, and thereby grant a year-long connection? Please? Please? --I
I was surprised how easy it is to get arcane connections, especially given how powerful they are (and especially especially if they last forever.) I had been thinking of suggesting making ACs much harder to get, something a person would definitely miss, eg. a medium-sized vile of blood or almost all their hair (hard to physrep,) and at top one or two very important items to them, but this suggestion seems good too. --Chevron
I quite like that arcane connections can include items as well, because there are a few things such as the main holy symbol of a paladin which I think probably are as closely bound up with that person as their hair is (I'm assuming it works by some kind of mechanism other than 'it has your DNA on it, this may be decided not to be the case). --Zebbie
Inquisitor: no, I believe the spirit in the spirit weapon is actually (a part of ) the priest's spirit - the spirit skills page on the website says "The priest may extend their spirit into a weapon to which they have become accustomed, causing it to become a holy weapon of their faith". It thus makes a lot of sense to me that they're an excellent arcane connection. --Felicity
Yes, what Felicity said. Your spirit weapon is your own soul, that is why only you can carry it by default (as opposed to anyone of your faith, for example). --Zebbie
